Recently there's been two new models of Beats currently on the market: Beats Solo Buds and Beats Studio Buds+. If you’re trying to figure out which replacement you need, here’s the main differences between the two earbuds.

Visual Differences Between Solo Buds vs. Studio Buds+ Earbuds

One of the main differences between the Solo Buds and Studio Buds+ is the color selection. The color options for the Beats Solo Buds are: Black, White, Red, and Arctic Purple. For Beats Studio Buds+, the color options are: Transparent, Black / Gold, Ivory, and Cosmic Silver.

When it comes to the black earbuds, solo buds have a white Beats logo on the side. Meanwhile, the Studio Buds+ earbud has a gold Beats logo.

The main difference between the Beats Solo Buds and Beats Studio Buds+ is the fact that the Beats Solo doesn’t offer active noise cancellation. Beats Studio Buds+ does.

Visual Differences Between Solo Buds vs. Studio Buds+ charging case

One major difference between the Solo Buds and the Studio Buds+ is the charging case. The Beats Solo Buds charging case is half the size of the Studio Buds+ charging case.

The main reason was to make the Beats Solo Buds a more portable wireless earbud option. Because of the size, the charging case doesn't have a battery. In order to charge your Solo Buds, you need to put your earbuds in the charging case and connect it to a power source.

Also, there is no reset button on the Solo Buds charging case. In order to reset the earbuds, you need to press the earbuds into the case to activate pairing mode.

Meanwhile, the Studio Buds+ charging case is bigger and has a reset button inside the charging case. In order to pair your replacement to your original set, you will need to press the reset button first. For pairing instructions, please refer to our Beats Pairing Guide.

Another difference with the charging case is that the Beats Solo Buds have the Beats logo, above the charging case. The Beats Studio Buds+ has the Beats logo in the middle, on the lower half of the charging case.

Model Numbers

Another way to check if you have the Beats Solo Buds or Beats Studio Buds+ is by checking the model numbers. There is text in the back of the earbud with the model number. It is tiny so if you don’t have a microscope, there’s an easier way.

If your earbuds are connected to an iOS device, you find the model number by:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Select Bluetooth
  3. Select My Device
  4. Scroll down to the About section where you'll find the Model Number, which will be A + 4 digits.

Once you find the model number, you can look down below this chart to figure out which model of Beats earbuds you have.

Something cool about Beats earbuds, is that you can mix and match the color as long as it’s the same kind of earbud. In fact, we launched a Beats Solo Buds Mix and Match. You can get a full set of Beats Solo Buds and choose which colors you want for your earbuds and charging case.
