Whether you got a new replacement or want to keep your original earbuds charged, here's a few tips on how to keep your battery last longer during a single charge.
- Shorten the Bluetooth Range
- Lower the Listening Volume
- Turn off Noise Cancellation
- Turn Off Other Features You Don’t Need
- Put Your Earbuds Back in the Charging Case When Not in Use
Shorten the Bluetooth Range
If you’re using wireless earbuds, your earbuds will use Bluetooth to connect your phone, tablet, laptop, or watch.
The recommended distance to keep a stable Bluetooth connection between two items is about 30 feet or 10 meters. Also, the strength of Bluetooth connection can be affected by other wireless devices and physical obstacles (i.e. person, wall, object).
If there’s any interference or you’re far away from the paired device, this will increase the transmit power of your device, which will reduce battery life. Your earbuds will need to transmit more power to keep a stable Bluetooth connection with the paired device. This is to prevent your music or podcast from stopping or skipping sporadically.
So in order to save battery, try to keep your earbuds and paired device close by so you can maintain a stable connection.
Lower the Listening Volume
Another way to lower battery usage is by lowering the listening volume on your earbuds. If the earbud needs to produce more volume, the earbud will need to use more battery to produce the sounds inside your ear. If you can, keeping the volume down can help improve the battery life.
Turn Off Noise Cancellation
Some wireless earbuds offer active noise cancellation. Active noise cancellation is a feature that uses your microphone to listen to the world around you to block out the noise through your speakers. This is a feature of the AirPods Pro, AirPods 4, and more wireless earbuds like the Studio Buds+ and Google Pixel Buds Pro.
If you don’t need this feature, we recommend turning off active noise cancellation. Earbuds using active noise cancellation will use more battery. With the new AirPods 4 (with ANC), your AirPods will last 5 hours instead of 4 hours with active noise cancellation turned off. So if you don’t need active noise cancellation, turn it off so you can save battery life.
Turn Off Other Features You Don’t Need
With wireless earbuds, there are many new built in features. However, you don’t use all of these in your daily life.
Some features that can be deactivated or turned off are:
- Custom equalizer (EQ)
- Ambient Sound Mode / Spatial Audio
- Siri or any similar voice assistant
- 3D head tracking
- Automatic Detection
- FindMy or similar features used to locate your earbuds
- Having the microphone always listen for voice commands
Even if you’re not using these features, your earbuds will use more battery since the wireless earbud is waiting to hear a voice command or tracking its current location through Bluetooth in case you lose it. So if you don't need it, it's better turn them off or deactivate them to save battery life.
Put Your Earbuds Back in the Charging Case When Not in Use
When you’re not using your wireless earbuds, it’s recommended to put them back in the charging case.
Putting the earbuds back in the charging case will make sure your earbuds are fully charged the next time you use them. But also leaving the earbuds out of the charging case will waste battery even if you leave your tunes or podcast on pause. For example, if you have active noise cancellation on, your earbuds will still have active noise cancellation turned on even when you're not actively listening to something.
So if you're not using your earbuds, put them back in the charging case so you don't accidentally waste your battery life.

In using any of these 5 tips, you will be able to improve the battery life of your wireless earbuds last longer during a single charge.
